Nancy-ann Romanelli, President of AA Glass in Bloomfield, operates a small woman business enterprise (WBE) focused on providing the best service to their customers. When COVID-19 hit, Nancy was unsure of how the business would adjust to what was sure to be a disastrous blow to the construction industry.
After learning about the Small Business Administration (SBA) through her attorney, Nancy reached out to the SBA Connecticut District Office in Hartford and spoke directly to Lender Relationship Specialist William “Bill” Tierney. Bill swiftly responded and addressed her initial questions and concerns in a personal and professional manner. Bill then put her in contact with the Connecticut Small Business Development Center (CTSBDC). The very next day Nancy was set up to work with CTSBDC Business Development Advisor, Jon Carlisle, in a one-on-one setting (virtually of course).
“This is an extraordinary and extremely stressful time for all business owners seeking answers and resources due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” stated Carlisle. “Immediately following up and addressing those questions and concerns, while providing Federal and State Emergency Program information to all the small businesses that reached out for assistance, was my priority. It has been a pleasure working with Nancy [AA Glass, Inc.] in reviewing, applying and successfully securing the funding she needed to keep the business going.”
With the help of Jon, Nancy has been able to keep all of her employees on the payroll, secure funding for overhead/operating costs and also continue to work with him in preparing to adapt to the new challenging business environment. She has applied for and received multiple loans; i.e. SBA PPP, SBA EIDL, DECD/CT Bridge Loan and DECD/HEDCO LOC.
Since the “Stay Safe, Stay Home” program was announced, AA Glass has adjusted their business. Many residential jobs were cancelled and other large construction projects are delayed. However, they have been supplying many businesses – both local and statewide – Poly Carbonate Plastic to be used as safety dividers. This shift in business has been crucial for them to continue working.
About AA Glass
AA Glass Inc., has been a family-owned and operated business for over 40 years. When the business opened in the 70’s, Roger Romanelli named the company after “Affirmative Action”. In the years since, Roger has passed ownership to his son Michael Romanelli. In 2018, Michael’s wife Nancy came on board as President, making AA Glass, Inc. the WBE entity that it is today.
Nancy has made it her mission to remain true to the company’s roots and provide customers with the personalized touch of a small business. Their business services both residential and commercial customers.
“Supporting small businesses is something I feel extremely passionate about. I will always make an effort to shop local and shop small,” stated Romanelli. “Without the help of the CTSBDC, I would have had to shut our doors. I encourage everyone to get online and learn more about what the SBA and SBDC has to offer.”
