Powell Mental Health (PMH) was founded by Dr. Georgia Powell, DHA, MBA, MHA, in response to the intense demands of individuals needing assistance to pivot through their health and wellness journey. Over the past few years, the world has encountered the COVID-19 pandemic, which has triggered a global health crisis and consequently adversely impacted the mental health of our communities.
PMH provides evidence-based treatment options to help children, teenagers, adults, and older adults cope with a range of mental health conditions, including attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, substance abuse disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, major depressive disorder, and more. PMH offers psychotherapy services that are tailored to address individual, group, couples, and family counseling needs and are designed to support clients in achieving their life goals. Powell Mental Health’s new Concierge Wellness Services Division is designed for high-profile individuals and organizations seeking discreet, on-demand mental health and wellness care.

Building a Vision: From Compliance to Community-Driven Success Support
Georgia initially came to CTSBDC to become more familiar with the protocols and processes to properly register her business, complete required filings, secure permits and licenses to establish her business, brand, and clientele.
Working with her advisor, Georgia pivoted from her original franchisee model and decided to develop her own independent, community-based programs, services, and facility. These collectively provided Georgia with greater control over her operations, the freedom to establish her brand, develop comprehensive solutions, and provide personalized mental health solutions for all ages across Connecticut and beyond.
“While working with Denise, I was able to establish Powell Mental Health, Powell Health Real Estate, and Powell Consulting Services. We worked together on business structure, filings, and securing capital to purchase the facility, hire employees, and more,” she says.
Over the course of her work with Denise, Georgia launched four businesses and acquired capital through three loans, including an SBA 504 Loan and a Commercial Property Loan from Windsor Federal. She also received a grant from the Black Business Alliance, won a Pitch Competition with SHEBA, and, separately, invested in her businesses.
"Through the support of SBDC and Denise, I have gained invaluable knowledge, tools, and technical assistance to help me drive strategy and actions. I am now well-versed in business structures, operations, and access to capital, and have secured industry research to support me on this journey," adds Georgia.
The Business Today
On October 3rd, Georgia celebrated the grand opening of Powell Mental Health at her new 1,800 square foot office facility located at 1080 Day Hill Road in Windsor, CT, marking an exciting milestone for her business. Powell Consulting, also located at the Windsor facility, has been an active partner in the community, continuously providing healthcare and medical advisory services across Connecticut. By collaborating with government programs, healthcare systems and providers, non-profit organizations, academia, and local communities, Powell Consulting and Powell Mental Health have strategically implemented successful solutions for better health outcomes.
Inspiring Leadership: Georgia's Dedication to Community and Healthcare
“Georgia's energy and enthusiasm are contagious, as is her commitment to her profession and community. She has assembled a solid team and strategy to promote health equality, mental wellness, and overall improvement of our healthcare systems. I feel truly honored to work with her and am absolutely delighted that she has launched her business here in Windsor CT,” says Denise.
Georgia earned a doctoral degree last year with a focus on Healthcare Management. She holds a BSc in Family Studies, an MBA, and an MSc in Health Care Management & Gerontology. Georgia serves on 6 different community healthcare organization's boards.
Why Every Small Business Owner Needs CTSBDC
“I would highly recommend all small business owners to work with CTSBDC as setting up, building, and scaling a business is challenging. Creating the business is only the initial step, with so many additional layers. Denise helped to ensure that the business is set up for growth and sustainability,” explains Georgia.
Congratulations to you Georgia and your dynamic team!
